The newest concert venue at North Central College has made Naperville the hub for theater and cultural events in the western suburbs of Chicago. The state of the art Wentz Concert Hall is a cultural icon and has 605 seats with an intimate feel and perfect acoustics on par with New York’s Carnegie Hall. Take in a play through North Central College's reknown fine arts program or enjoy performaces by local and regional community theater organizations, the DuPage Symphony Orchestra and other local and nationally known artists. Senior Alyssa Digges will be directing Ray Cooney's "Out of Order," a fast-paced British farce in which the Conservative Government MP, Richard Willey, attempts to have an affair with one of the secretaries of the Opposition at a top London hotel. However, with a dead body, a bungling secretary, a suspicious hotel manager, an opportunistic waiter, an impulsive wife, a furious husband and an angry nurse, Richard's romantic evening isn't going according to plan.
An Evening with North Central College Jazz Vocalist Janice Borla

Vocalist Janice Borla has worked with such jazz talents as Clark Terry, Bunky Green, Charlie Haden, Bobby Watson, Gary Bartz and Bobby Shew and performed at Chicago's Jazz Showcase, The Iridium in New York City, the Soroptimist Women in Jazz Festival in Fort Bragg and the Chicago Jazz Festival. She founded the annual Janice Borla Vocal Jazz Camp and Hot Jazz-6 Cool Nites Concert Series.

Dr. Cornel West

North Central College is excited to welcome Dr. Cornel West as the keynote speaker for the annual week-long celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On the 50th anniversary of Dr. King's visit to North Central, West will speak from the same stage and lectern as the great civil rights leader did in 1960. One of America's most provocative public intellectuals, Cornel West has been a champion for racial justice since childhood. His writing, speaking, and teaching weave together the traditions of the black Baptist Church, progressive politics, and jazz. The New York Times has praised his "ferocious moral vision."

The Chicago Sinfonietta "The Dream Lives On: Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr."

The Chicago Sinfonietta marks the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a musical celebration presented by the nation's most diverse symphony orchestra. The tribute concert showcases the talented and diverse musicians of the Chicago Sinfonietta under the baton of noted conductor Paul Freeman, special guest artists and partner arts organizations, all performing repertoire chosen based on themes of peace, brotherhood and overcoming adversity. The performance concludes with audience participation in a moving rendition of the spiritual "We Shall Overcome."

Eighth Blackbird, "Still Life with Avalanche"

Grammy Award-winning ensemble Eighth Blackbird shows off its virtuosity and theatrical flair in a diverse program exploring the influence of rock music on recent classical composition. "Double Sextet," a new Steve Reich work for Eighth Blackbird, was awarded the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Music. This fun, funky piece has both rhythmic drive and songful lyricism, and will feature Eighth Blackbird performing simultaneously live and pre-recorded.
